Why this edition has no movement
On September 25, 2026 Buffalo Projects widened the sources it collects. Postings that appeared that day were mostly new coverage, not new hiring, so openings and closings before it cannot be compared with those after. This baseline edition reports only the postings listed on September 28, 2026. The first monthly edition, October 2026, will report new and closed postings for the whole month.

This edition was frozen before postings were coded to occupations, so it cannot yet say which 1,353 postings are tech roles. Tech counts, top occupations, and tech pay appear from the first edition built after coding.

Method
Sources and coverage
Postings come from 19 sources: employers' own career systems, read directly, plus the 43North job board for its portfolio companies. Only postings placed in Western New York are counted. The index refreshes about once a day; a posting closes on the first refresh where its source no longer lists it, and when a source's check fails its postings are carried forward rather than closed. This edition covers 49 employers, not the whole regional market: small employers, staffing agencies, and general job boards are not collected.

What counts as tech
A tech posting is one coded to a 2018 SOC computer occupation or one of five tech-enabled occupations, each at the six-digit level so counts join BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics directly. Graphic designers, postsecondary computer science teachers, and engineering outside computing are not counted.
