Not comparable with the August 2026 edition. That edition counted 645 openings from 65 sources; this one counts 1,004 from 17. The two editions read different sets of sources, so differences between their figures reflect what we collected, not a change in regional hiring.
349 openings left out. The snapshot also held 286 from University at Buffalo and 63 from SUNY Buffalo State University. Those job boards’ robots.txt files disallow the pages we read, so we stopped reading them on October 23, 2026 and took down what they had published. This edition leaves them out, and every figure on this page and in the CSV excludes them. The same employers’ openings from other sources stay in.
A few employers hold most of the openings
M&T Bank and Moog together posted 438 openings, 43.6% of the edition. The ten largest employers account for 84.4%. That describes the collected inventory, not all hiring in the regional economy: a large employer with its own career site is easier to check completely than many small ones.

How long listings had been up
1004 listings stated when they were posted. Of those, 182 (18.1%) were a week old or newer, 365 (36.4%) were 8 to 30 days old, and 457 (45.5%) had been up more than 30 days when checked. A long-running listing can be a hard-to-fill role, a standing requisition, or a posting the employer has not taken down.
Published pay
27 listings (2.7%) published pay. All of them came from 1 of the 17 sources; postings from the other sources were collected without pay, so this share reflects what we collected, not how many employers state pay. Across 21 salaried ranges, the median low end was $91,000 and the median high end was $120,000 a year. Across 6 hourly ranges, the medians were $19.50 and $22.31 an hour. Pay counts only ranges the employer stated; ranges a job board estimated are left out. These describe the listings that chose to publish pay, not wages across the region.
Many details go unstated
Work arrangement was stated for 515 listings (51.3%): 213 on-site, 250 hybrid, and 52 remote. Employment type was stated for 752 (74.9%), of which 712 were full-time. Buffalo Projects leaves the rest unknown instead of estimating.

Method and reuse
Published October 26, 2026. The figures are fixed to the snapshot generated September 28, 2026 and rebuilt from it on October 26, 2026; they do not change as the live index updates. Listings can change after checking, sources can fail, and this is not a complete census of regional hiring.
