Veterinary Technician

The Laboratory Animal Facilities at the University at Buffalo is is looking for a NYS licensed veterinary technician to join our team. Prior laboratory animal experience is not required for this position, and clinical skills used in private practice are translatable. We will teach you to work with lots of new and interesting species. You need a desire to learn new things and to be comfortable working with a variety of animals, both large and small.

Like any veterinary technician position, this job can be physically demanding at times, and you will be on your feet a lot. The difference with this position is that every day is a little different, and you won’t be doing the same thing day in and day out. The LAF has a presence on all 3 of UB’s campuses (North, South, Downtown), so some travel between facilities is required. The regular work week is Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts, with shared weekend and holiday hours required. If you thrive in an environment where you are part of a team and have readily available resources, but can work independently, this could be a good fit for you.

Typical job duties for this position:

• Patient care for a variety of species, including daily treatments
• Assisting veterinarians with exams and diagnostic testing
• Maintaining medical and other relevant records
• Teaching students in small, hands-on classes on topics such as handling, how to administer injections, and anesthesia
• Corresponding via email with researchers
• Assisting researchers with scheduled projects
