Full description

Overview

Calspan is hiring hands-on technicians to measure and 3D scan vehicles before and after crash tests. You’ll work with vehicles still being developed and help engineers check the test results. We provide training. Experience with measurement arms (CMMs) or 3D scanners is a plus, not a requirement. If you’re comfortable working with tools and vehicles and pay attention to details, Calspan is your future employer!

Calspan’s crash test facility, located across from the Buffalo Niagara Airport, is known worldwide for its overall vehicle safety testing.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Measure and mark vehicles before crash tests, following test plans and customer instructions.
  • Measure and 3D scan vehicles after tests to record damage and changes in shape.
  • Record measurements, scans, and notes accurately.
  • Use portable measurement arms and 3D scanners—we’ll train you.
  • Work with engineers and other technicians to prepare vehicles and complete tests.
  • Read and follow testing instructions.
  • Check your work for accurate, consistent results.
  • Report measurement problems or results that don’t match.
  • Keep your work area safe and organized.
  • Follow safety rules and wear required protective equipment.
  • Help improve the tools and steps used to take measurements.
Qualifications

What You’ll Need:

  • Be comfortable using tools and working hands-on with vehicles.
  • Pay attention to details and follow instructions carefully.
  • Keep clear work records and explain your results to others.
  • Have basic computer skills and be willing to learn new programs.
  • Keep up with a busy work schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Be available for required overtime. Plenty of overtime is available.
  • Work well on your own and with a team.

What’s Helpful, but Not Required:

  • A related associate degree, engineering technology or trade school training.
  • Experience in automotive work, manufacturing, testing, or inspection.
  • Experience with measurement arms (CMMs), laser or 3D scanners, or camera-based measuring equipment.
  • Experience checking quality, measuring parts, or preparing vehicles for testing.
  • Technical training or similar hands-on experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office.

The Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including on uneven surfaces.
  • Frequently bend, lift, reach, squat, kneel, crawl, and twist.
  • Work around damaged vehicles and debris in an industrial testing area.
  • Spot problems visually and respond to safety signals.

The Work Environment

  • Work at a state-of-the-art automotive crash testing and vehicle development facility.
  • Work hands-on with vehicles that are still being developed or are not in production.
  • Follow a busy schedule based on customer needs and test dates.
  • Overtime is common and expected

What We Offer:

  • Hourly wages, overtime and periodic double-time
  • Excellent medical, dental & vision coverage at very affordable prices
  • 160 hours annually of (PTO) paid time off
  • 10 company paid holidays
